Inside Companjon - Senem Özen

As part of our new blog series, we're sitting down with some star employees, who share all things on what it's like to work at Companjon, what's happening behind the scenes and honest experiences. This week we spoke with our Data Analyst, Senem Özen.

Hello, could you tell us what excited you about joining Companjon?

I was excited to be part of a new startup venture that was rapidly scaling. As a data analyst, I love working with data and when I learned about Companjon’s inspiration to use data in a way that creates a positive impact on people’s lives, my decision to join was clear.

So, you’re a data analyst, could you briefly tell us what that involves?

My main responsibility as a data analyst is mining the data from internal and external sources, analysing the results using statistical techniques to interpret data which involves using visualization tools and then share these insights with various stakeholders and managers which helps the data-driven decision-making process.

Before we expanded, you were the only female on the insurance team, what’s the best piece of advice you’d offer to other women working on similar teams?

You may be the only woman on your team but you bring something really powerful to the table. While I was the only female on the insurance team for a while, I did not feel differential to my male colleagues at all, everyone has an equal voice. I am proud to work for a company who embraces gender inclusion and diversity especially in roles such as tech, compliance and risk. And just to add, we have recently hired more females for our team 😊.

Is joining Companjon different to what you expected?

It was better than what I expected. I joined Companjon during the peak of Covid times so interviewing, onboarding and meeting new colleagues 100% virtual turned out to be seamless and highly engaging - more so than I had anticipated. It was amazing to see how collaborative and welcoming everyone was despite being virtual, there is definitely a strong communication process in place that makes working virtually less lonely.

What do you find most rewarding in your role?

As mentioned, I love working with data, it never fails to disappoint! Part of my role is also to work with all business units in the process of interpreting the data. With this, I find it fulfilling working and learning from my colleagues who have a wealth of experience across multiple industries across global markets. I also find creating insight from the data with an aim to create seamless and memorable experiences for users very rewarding.

You came from quite a traditional corporate background; how does that differ from Companjon?

The main difference is the flat and dynamic culture for sure. In a traditional company the process can take quite long to reach someone at a higher level, there are lots of steps involved even to get an approval for something. We move fast here at Companjon and can reach Executive members directly with ease, brainstorm and exchange ideas. Having a strong communication policy combined with a flat structure creates a positive and fulfilling workplace for me. Everyone has a voice here.

How would you describe your team in 3 words?

Connected, dynamic and smart!

If you could spend a day with anyone, who would it be?

U.S Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her story really inspired me, she was one of nine women to study at Harvard Law School in the 50’s and went on to become a pioneer for gender equality from the 1970’s. She was fearless and achieved greatness throughout her distinguished career.

Any last words?

Thanks for interviewing me! It was nice to share my experience and I hope this encourages others to join the Companjon family.
